ERP and legacy systems

Keep the ERP. Get the reporting out of it.

27 ledger layouts, read from the export your finance team already runs - CSV, Excel or the text file your report queue writes. No connector project, no migration, no upgrade, and nothing installed in your system.

Why an old ERP is not a blocker here

Every vendor in this category wants you to move first. The assumption underneath is that a 30-year-old ledger cannot be read properly, so it has to be replaced. In practice the data is fine - the export is just written in the habits of 1996: one signed amount instead of debit and credit columns, a date as a Julian number, amounts with the decimal point implied by the storage, a company code glued to the front of every account, and a subtotal after every page.

Those habits are what the importer knows how to undo. It finds the column row under the report title, converts the dates, splits the signed amounts, joins the account segments, drops the budget ledger and the page totals, and refuses the file if what is left does not balance. Then it tells you what it did.

The systems nobody wants to move off. These have no decent API and a finance team that lives in the report writer, so the ledger is read out of the report they already run.

Frequently asked

Do we have to replace our ERP to use Fin-Central?

No, and that is the point of this section. Fin-Central reads the general ledger export your system already produces - a CSV, an Excel workbook or a plain-text report spool - and builds the reporting on top of it. Your ERP stays the system of record.

What does it need the export to look like?

One row per journal line, with a date, an account code and either separate debit and credit columns or one signed amount column. CSV, XLSX, XLS, or a plain-text / fixed-width report spool (.txt, .dat, .asc, .prn). A title block above the column headings and subtotal rows between the postings are both normal for an ERP report and both are handled.

Our ERP is 20 or 30 years old. Will it work?

That is who this was built for. Older systems have the most awkward exports - Julian dates, amounts with the decimal point left out, account codes split into five segments, budget rows mixed in with actuals - and each of those has a specific fix in the importer rather than a request for you to reshape the file in Excel.

Can we upload the ledger a month at a time?

Yes. Each upload can replace the whole ledger, add only the journal lines that are new, or refresh just the accounting periods in the file. Whichever you choose, the ledger that results has to balance before anything is written.

How do we know a re-upload changed something?

Every upload is compared with the ledger already stored, period by period and account by account, and the difference is written out in plain English. If an earlier period moves, it is called out as a restatement, because that is the month your filed accounts may no longer agree with.

Is this a substitute for our ERP's reporting?

No. The ledger stays where it is. What Fin-Central adds is the reporting an older ERP usually cannot produce on its own: a 13-week cash flow, a trial balance you can drill into, a month-end close checklist and a board pack.

Not sure which layout yours is? Upload the export against the generic layout and the importer names the columns it found. Try the demo or ask about a migration-free trial balance.
